Located on the opposite side of the world to the UK, Sydney is a diverse and fun-filled city that really does offer the holiday of a lifetime. You don’t necessarily need lots of time to explore this great destination, but you should certainly include it in any plans you have to see Australia.
Here we share some of our favourite things to see in Sydney which make it such an amazing place to go.
Sydney Opera House
Unsurprisingly, this very famous landmark is first on the list, and it would be almost impossible to visit Sydney without seeing its striking Opera House. The Opera House hosts around 40 shows each week, so it is the place to go if you want to see a performance during your trip, but simply seeing it is enough for most tourists.
More than 8.2 million people visit the Opera House every year which just shows how popular it is, and its place on the UNESCO World Heritage list reflects its importance too.
Manly Beach
If you want to sit and soak up some sun during your trip to Sydney then Manly Beach is the place to be. You can reach the beach via ferry from the harbour, and although it takes 30 minutes it will take you between the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge which means you will have a great view of both of these landmarks.
The beach itself is very spacious and offers visitors a long stretch of soft sand which is perfect for sunbathing on. You will also be spoilt for choice when it comes to food and drink as there are plenty of delicious options lining the beachfront.
Taronga Zoo
It's not a trip to Australia without seeing some of the country’s famous animals, and you will find plenty of these at Taronga Zoo. Not only will you see koalas, tasmanian devils, and duck-billed platypus, but one of the best sights is the giraffes against a backdrop including the Opera House.
